King David: Dense biblical tale tracks young David’s life from his boyhood battle with Goliath to his anxious reign as emperor; only goes bad in the second half, where abruptness sabotages narrative. Good Guys Wear Black: Norris hops feet first through a windshield and proceeds to rearrange the face of bellman Backus, all in the name of nationwide security. Stupid political paranoia thriller passes time effortlessly enough. Cast includes Chuck Norris, Anne Archer, James Franciscus, Lloyd Haynes, Dana Andrews, and Jim Backus.(100 minutes,’79)
Frequency: John Sullivan lost his father thirty years ago. He is still affected by the loss. Somehow with the use of his father’s old ham radio, he can communicate with his father, back when his father was still alive. He warns his father of the fire that would kill him. This saves his father but sets off new events that now must be resolved, or John’s mother will die.
Frontier Hellcat: Another Karl Winnetou tale, which seizes flavor of the Old West in the adventure of pioneers passing through Rockies. Cast includes Stewart Granger, Elke Sommer, Pierre Brice, and Gotz George. (98 minutes,’66)
Infinity: Sugary however choppy film based on the life of Richard Feynman, whose relation with Arline Arquette in pre-WW2. N.Y.C. takes a fateful turn when he is enlisted to work on the Manhattan Project. The scientist won the Nobel Prize in’65. Cast includes Matthew Broderick, Patricia Arquette, Peter Riegert, Dori Brenner, and James LeGros. (117 minutes,’96)
Mr. Nice Guy: Jackie Chan, a Television cook, is chased by 2 sets of men who are both after an incriminating videotape that’s fallen into his hands. One of Jackie’s better later films, set in Melbourne and, like most of his best films, an action comedy. Shimmering and arousing fights abound, the best and funniest orchestrated at a construction site. Cast includes Jackie Chan, Richard Norton, Miki Lee, Karen McLymont, Gamelle Fitzpatrick, and Vince Poletto. (113 minutes,’97)
