Critic Movie Reviews

by Shelby Hunt

For years now, the video store was the way to get movies. Now, with internet usage exploding, movie downloads are becoming very popular. Just about any movie every made can be attained through a movie download site now. Check out these samples.

Communion: Mental thriller with Walken well cast as author Whitley Strieber, who finds himself visited by odd beings. Does he need a psychiatrist or an exorcist? A tad long in the tooth and the dramatic scenes between Walken and spouse Crouse don’t really work. The movie still has some good moments. Cast includes Christopher Walken, Lindsay Crouse, Frances Sternhagen, Andreas Katsulas, Terri Hanauer, Joel Carlson, and Basil Hoffman. (107 minutes, 1977)

Shooter: Retired Marine Corp Sniper Bob Lee Swagger is asked to come to Washington, to help track another sniper that will try to kill the President. What happens to him next is a total shock. The same US government people that he is helping are actually setting him up to take the fall for the assassination. He somehow escapes when he is shot, and is now on the run. He is also ready to fight back.

The Gaucho: Cheesy melodramatics and moralizing, and not enough action hinder this lesser Fairbanks piece, in which he plays a famed, egocentric South American man. Cast includes Douglas Fairbanks, Lupe Velez, Eve Southern, Gustav von Seyffertitz, Nigel de Brulier, and Geraine Greear. (96 minutes, 1927)

The Three Muskateers: Musketeers Athos, Porthos, and Aramis join young D’Artagnan in an attempt to stop Cardinal Richelieu, who is plotting to form an alliance with the English. The Musketeers are abandoned, and asked to throw down their swords. These three refuse, and along with D’Artagnan will try and save France.

The Addiction: A New York University philosophy student is about to have her world turned upside down. She is bitten by a ruthless female vampire, and is now a blood thirsty vampire herself. Lili Taylor, Christopher Walken, Annabella Sciorra, and Edie Falco star. (1995 horror-vampire directed by Abel Ferrara)

The Great Race: Long, occasionally ludicrous, often labored comedy, not the best ever made as promoted. Fight pattern and barroom fight are highlights, although the pie quarrel falls flat, other gimmicks don’t work. This is absolutely a mixed box, albeit Natalie looked much better than she did in “The Darling Shrub.” Cast includes Tony Curtis, Natalie Wood, Jack Lemmon, Peter Falk, Keenan Wynn, Larry Storch, and George Macready. (150 minutes, 1965)

Lovers: Aristocrat Mastroianni has a fictional spouse; an organ grinder persuades prostitute Mori to “impersonate” her. While it’s not stupid, it’s unexciting. Cast includes Marcello Mastroianni, Claudia Mori, Lino Morelli, Plant life Carabella, and Adriano Celentano. (93 minutes, 1976)

Lunatics A Love Tale: Raimi is a pleasant paranoid, restricted by his doubts to his desolate L.A. condo. Foreman is convinced that she causes everyone she cares for to die. Strange lowbudget comedy has genuine, if off beat, charm. Cast includes Theodore Raimi, Deborah Foreman, Bruce Campbell, Brian McCree, Eddie Rosmaya, and Michele Stacey. (87 minutes, 1992)

Money Train: Two unlikely foster brothers John, a black man, and Charlie, a white man, are both transit cops in New York. Charlie is up to his neck in bad gambling debts, and he decides it is time to do something he and John always dreamed about. Rob the money train. Will he be able to pull it off?

He’s Just Not That Into You DVD – Not Just a Chick Flick

by Patrick Daniels

Right away you see the preview and the coming attractions and the first thing you think is Chick Flick! Now most women love a good chick flick, but guys run in the other direction. Well although the premise for this film is relationships, it is based on a book that delves deep into the world of relationships and the unspoken rejection that goes into the dating scene.

Some of the actors in the film include; Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck and Drew Barrymore. Barrymore, honestly steals the shows! She has a mature look to her in this film, yet still maintains her sweetness. One of the most hysterical lines in the film comes from her discussing how you can get rejected in 7 different technologies, now a days. It is funny, yet so true!

In addition to humor, making light of awkward situations and heartfelt dating issues, there was an underlying understanding that hit home for many movie goers. Humorous situations were addressed with compassion and understanding, a kind that can only come from someones own real life experiences. All this mixed with the quality of acting made for a movie that you can really get into.

Based on the book by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, He’s Just Not That Into You, is a great way for the world to be introduced to the tribulations of the dating scene. It is also a way to let people know it is okay to laugh at your dating problems, as it will all work its self out in the end.

This is the type of movie you will want to see again and again. This DVD will provide you with a good chuckle again and again. I have watched it three times and got just as many laughs the last time around as the first.

CD Copying For Dummies

by Thomas Brinkenberth

Compact discs or more popularly known as CDs are quite popular in terms of usage today. Basically, a CD is an optical disc that is utilized to store various digital data. Decades ago, it was originally used to store music. However, as years passed, it gained a following and is now employed to store other types of data, like pictures and text documents as well as movies. There are also discs that you can only use ones and there are also rewriteable samples for those who want to recycle or save money.

It is undeniable that a CD can bring about so many benefits. The first one is because it is very effective as a file backup tool. It defeated the erstwhile leader, the floppy disk, because it has bigger memory storage. Add to that the fact that newer model of computers being introduced no longer has a floppy drive. Manufacturers have realized that it is not going to be as in demand as it was before so they slowly phased it out.

A third advantage is that the consumer can access his data in the CD in a much faster manner. This is a huge turn on for people who are always busy as a bee and can’t afford any downtime for such delays. Last but definitely not the least, a compact disc is not that pricey. In fact, anyone can afford to buy it as any computer store.

Copying files to and from a compact disc is relatively easy. It only requires a short time and the virtue of patience to learn this skill. Read on the following paragraphs on how to go about this task.

The first thing that you should have at hand is writable disc and your personal computer or laptop. Make sure that your computer has a Compact disc Rewritable logo. If it doesn’t, you can purchase one from a computer store or download it from the internet.

After that, insert your disc into the CD drive. Then, search for the CD Drive Dialog box. As soon as you have found it, click the folder labeled open CD writable. This is now your time to highlight all the documents, including text, graphics, pictures and videos that you want to copy to your disc. You can now perform the right click option of the mouse then immediately go back to the window presenting your blank CD. After you have finished posting all the files you need to copy, click on the file menu and choose the write these files to CD command. A few seconds later, a pop up window will come into sight and you will see a small box claiming that it is the CD writing Wizard. You will then be asked to label your CD. The wizard will then start copying the files as its final step.

A different pop up window will appear if there is a problem encountered. Usually, this is due to way too many data being copied. You can solve this common woe by deleting unnecessary files. Go back to the CD writing wizard box and repeat all the steps mentioned above. Usually, a successful process would only take a few seconds, depending on the size of your files. Remember, the bigger the file, the longer time it would take to copy. Sometimes, it could even last up to an hour or two. If you see that everything is completed, click on the Finish button and try to eject the CD from the computer.

So there you have it, folks! CD copying made so simple that even a certified beginner will breeze through it. Enjoy copying your files!

Guitar Instructional DVD: Improve Your Playing

by Jonathan Crummey

Knowing the fact that the approach you use to learn the guitar is the key-determining factor in your success or failure to actually learn, these three conclusions follow:

Despite the fact that many successful don’t really talk much about this, you can find some that do. Believe me, becoming successful is a lot more than just practicing and luck! REMEMBER that their strategies won’t necessarily work for you because your goals may be different than theirs were. Still you can learn from it.

Remember that its ok to daydream and fantasize about where you are planning to go, but it can’t stop there. Don’t wish without planning! Don’t dream without doing! And always, always, have a strategy.

You may need to revise certain aspects of your strategy as time goes on and that’s ok, but don’t try to go forward without one if you want the maximum results in the shortest amount of time. In my early days learning to play guitar, I wasted a lot of time aimlessly desiring to get better without having a clue as to how to plan for it. Sure I practiced a lot, but without direction and without an efficient path to follow. Most of my substantial progress as a musician came only after I developed a strategy and worked with it.

The way you view yourself (as an artist and not merely someone who owns a guitar and plays it sometimes) is very important to the way you will think about what you are doing musically. The way you see yourself will also effect the results you will get as you are expressing yourself.

I notice the finger responsible for playing that note is the third finger. It is not getting to the note because it is going up in the air in reaction to the second finger being used right before it in that particular scale passage. In other words, it is tensing in reaction to the movement of it’s neighboring finger, and I have not been paying attention to it. I realize this is a bad habit that pervades my playing, a third finger that tenses up in reaction to the use of the second finger.

You can undo bad habits you have learned along the way. You can begin the process of undoing bad habits right away, when you begin to acquire the correct understandings, and use the approaches based on them.

For instance, practice chord changes. Perhaps switching from an F barre chord to a D open is driving you crazy. Spend ten minutes going over and over the change.

Guitar Instruction DVD: Don’t Get Stuck While You’re Paying For Lessons

by Robert Fanene

Once you have got an idea of the guitar players you should be listening to and watching, you will be able to go looking for bluegrass guitar tabs. With these you can learn picking patterns that you can apply to any songs you learn. You will also be able to pick up tabs for bluegrass fiddle tunes you can learn to play on the guitar, try any bluegrass forums you find, as well as tab archives.

The first thing I will say to you is this: Unless you are practicing to be a professional, don’t pick up the guitar unless you actually want to. The most valuable part of a practice session is that you actually enjoy it. If you want to be in a band, or want to play on the jam circuit, then I would recommend picking up your guitar once a day and spending at least an hour with it.

If that describes you, if you are just learning the guitar or only recently desired to learn to play guitar, these sites are perfect for you. Oftentimes through these types of online guitar lesson sites that are geared to novices you can become exposed to a wide range of different techniques, including things like the funk-skunk. Beyond websites that are up and running to assist novices, there are interactive sites that can be a great resource for a person who is interested in learning basic or even more advanced guitar playing techniques.

In this regard, these interactive sites can be well suited to novices and more experienced players alike. Once again, as with other types of sites online, you can learn techniques like the funk-skunk on interactive sites that are running online today. Finally, there are online guitar playing communities through which people like you can learn a vast array of guitar techniques including such things as funk-skunk.

First of all, there are some smaller sites online today through which you might be able to find some individualized attention when it comes to learning the basics of the guitar, including finger picking. In some instances, you can access the guitar lesson opportunities that are available at this smaller venues for a most reasonable fee. Through these sites you many times can garner some one on one attention from an instructor that has an established track record with playing guitar.

Most blues men use E A and B, some prefer A D and E, or G C and D, played in the 7th. Bla bla bla sixth this seventh that augmented this diminished that. What the heck am I talking about?

Chances are though, you already have a guitar. It’s the weapon of choice of the heart broken isn’t it? You probably GOT a guitar because you were sad about something. Nothing like a six string box to pour your heart through. Something about the twang of the strings just tells you, yeah, I feel your pain.

A little tip for you here: If a string breaks on your guitar, I would recommend you change the whole set, other wise you will end up with spare strings lying around everywhere, and for some reason, I always find there is a difference in quality of sound when I only change one string. Maybe I’m just a perfectionist, who knows? As far as practice is concerned, there are a couple of ways to approach it.
